coming soon

Welp, if this one doesn’t prove to be controversial, I don’t know what will. Oliver Stone’s W. is set to be the first biopic of George W. Bush and is set for an October 17, 2008 release.

With Josh Brolin as Dubya, James Cromwell as George H.W. Bush, Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush, Thandie Newton as Condoleezza Rice, Richard Dreyfuss as DIck Cheney, Scott Glenn as Donald Rumsfeld, Jeffrey Wright as Colin Powell, Ioan Gruffudd as Tony Blair, and Rob Corddry as Ari Fleischer, this should be incredibly interesting.

Marvel’s desire to say “oops, we fucked up” and reboot a franchise is back in full effect with Punisher: War Zone. Not a sequel to the 2004 film starring Thomas Jane, this movie, set for release in 2008, stars Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle and Dominic West as Jigsaw (no, not that Jigsaw).

Lexi Alexander directs.

Trailer:

Things are looking absolutely perfect in the graphic novel film adaptation world, aren’t they? Watchmen looks incredibly cool and so does the Frank Miller-directed The Spirit.

Shot in Sin City-esque style and featuring a hot-as-hell cast (Eva Mendes, Paz Vega, Jaime King, Scarlett Johansson!), this one looks like a clear winner. It drops on Christmas Day 2008, so it might be a great way to spend the holidays for those, like me, looking for something a little different.

The second trailer for the film is out and is a fair sight more expository than the first, naturally. I love the look of the piece and the noir quality it looks to have. The Spirit should be a blast!

Trailer:

Now THIS excites the living hell out of me! Zack Snyder (300) brings another graphic novel to life with Watchmen, a great-looking flick set to drop on March 6, 2009.

Most people who are into this type of thing already have seen and analysed the trailer to death, but I bring it here for those who might not ordinarily be into these types of films. I can almost assure you good people that this one is going to be hot. This is something different from the usual superhero mania and it should be a nice breath of fresh air for those a little too tired of the Iron Man and The Dark Knight hype that dominated the summer blockbuster season.

So…here is the trailer. Enjoy!

Trailer:

It’s fair to say that I’m looking forward to Woody Allen’s newest film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, more than any other film this year. Not only does the film star two gorgeous women, my girlfriend Scarlett Johansson and my other girlfriend Penelope Cruz (seriously, all this thing needed was a Hathaway and I’d be set for life), but it looks absolutely stunning. Javier Bardem stars, too, with a less creepy haircut.

Anywho, gushing aside here’s a trailer and, following that, a still from the film featuring hottie Penelope Cruz.

The teaser poster for the fifth instalment (yes, I’m spelling that properly) of the Saw series is out, as you can see. Some guy has strapped some other guy’s face on to his own…er, face.

Anyways, Saw V is geared for a Halloween release. Directed by David Hackl, this one will star Tobin Bell and Julie Benz. Benz will also be in the newest Punisher flick and was featured in Rambo. Yep.

I’ve still only seen the first Saw film and rather liked it, but I’m not sure what I make about this ever-expanding franchise. There’s apparently already a Saw VI in the works, too. Yay?

Ben Stiller. Robert Downey Jr. as a black man. Jack Black. And a cameo by Tom Cruise? This is Tropic Thunder, one of the most anticipated comedies of the summer.

Today I’ve got the latest international trailer for the film, as well as a sneak shot of Tom Cruise looking mighty strange from the set. Who knows, maybe Tommy C’s getting his sense of humour back. Regardless, it looks like it’s going to be an incredibly funny movie.

The new Mike Myers flick The Love Guru is facing some opposition from a variety of Hindu groups for apparent scenes in which ashram life and Hinduism are mocked.

“The film cannot be allowed to be screened in the country (India) if the objectionable sequences are not removed,” spokesman of Brahmin Progress Organisation Hari Narayan said. “If it is still released, then the Brahmin Progress Organisation will oppose its screening. The producers should make the necessary changes.”

Many Hindu groups both in India and in the United States are demanding that scenes in the film be removed because they may hurt religious sentiments. Interesting. Religious sentiments are hurt in just about every Hollywood blockbuster, so I’m not sure why a shitty-looking Mike Myers comedy has raised such a fuss.

The Love Guru, which looks positively idiotic, will be released in the United States with Hindu-mocking scenes intact on June 20th. The intelligence-mocking scenes will also feature heavily in the film, which stars Myers, Justin Timberlake, and Jessica Alba. Marco Schnabel directs.
